Rural Energy Agency (REA) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Energy of the United Republic of Tanzania. Its main role is to promote and facilitate access and use of modern energy services in particular, productive uses in order to stimulate rural economic and social development in rural areas of Mainland Tanzania. REA became operational in October 2007. The Agency is working in partnership and collaboration with private sector, NonGovernmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations, and Government agencies. Apropos to its role and addressing challenges faced due to the use of traditional cooking solutions towards achieving the SDGs, the Rural Energy Agency (REA) in collaboration with the World Bank, has opened a financing window for co-funding Improved Cooking Solutions. The financing window will be used strategically to provide subsidy to Manufacturers/distributors of improved cook stoves for scaling-up their sales and increasing end-user affordability, thus, increasing access to modern and improved cooking solutions in rural areas of Mainland Tanzania for economic and social development. REA is inviting Manufacturers/Distributors of Improved Cookstoves to apply for Subsidies Under Result Based Financing for Improved Cooking Solutions to facilitate the access of Improved Clean Cooking Solutions in rural and periurban areas.
